General Surgeon/Trauma Surgeon – Univ. of Alberta & Grey Nuns Community Hosp.

Covenant Health, Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, invites applications for two General Surgeons with fellowship training in Trauma Surgery.The successful applicants will be based at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital for General Surgery and at the University of Alberta Hospital for Trauma. The General Surgery position at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital will be equivalent to a 0.5 FTE, and the Trauma position at the University of Alberta Hospital will entail 12 weeks of service.

The General Surgery program presently consists of 53 General Surgeons and provides service to the City of Edmonton and surrounding communities. We provide specialized care in all aspects of General Surgery including hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation, general surgical oncology, head and neck surgery, endocrine surgery, trauma, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, upper GI surgery, bariatric surgery, breast surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.

This individual will take part in the undergraduate and post-graduate surgery curricula at the University of Alberta. Therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic appointment in the Department of Surgery,University of Alberta. This will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The successful applicants will have a job description which includes a commitment to clinical care delivery, education and research. The successful candidate will care for surgical inpatients and outpatients, and participate in the on-call rota supporting the University of Alberta Hospital and the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. The entire Edmonton Zone will also be supported through a regional referral program covering Northern Alberta.

Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent with completed training in General Surgery and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. This individual must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in General Surgery or equivalent and recognized training in Trauma Surgery.

Remuneration will be on a fee-for-services basis through billings submitted by the physician to Alberta Health & Wellness
