Island Health is seeking a full-time General Surgeon to join 4 full-time General Surgeons at the Campbell River General Hospital commencing immediately or at a time that is mutually convenient for the successful candidate and the current group of general surgeons. Locum opportunities for the successful candidate are available commencing immediately.
The successful candidate will hold FRCPC in General Surgery and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. Preference will be given to candidates with either advanced laparoscopic and/or endoscopic skills, colorectal fellowship, or a strong background in community general surgery.
The practice includes 1 operating room day a week, 1 endoscopy day a week and 2 office days a week. On call duties will be 1 in 5 and there is the possibility of joining an existing general surgery office.
The Campbell River General Hospital serves a referral population of 60,000. This position will be in the new 95 bed hospital which was opened in September 2017.
Surgical services include fellowship trained orthopedics (joint revision, arthroscopy & spine), General Surgery, ENT, Plastics, Obs/Gyn, Urology, Dental, and Sedation Service for Endoscopy.
The hospital has a closed ICU, diagnostic (including CT scanner and MRI) and interventional radiology.
Island Health is affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine and the Division of General Surgery supports R3 to R5 General Surgical Resident rotations in addition to the Postgraduate Family Practice Residency Program – Campbell River site residents, who are based at Campbell River General Hospital.
