The Vancouver General Hospital is an academic Level 1 trauma centre affiliated with the University of British Columbia which receives tertiary/quaternary referrals from across the province of British Columbia. The Section of Trauma Surgery staffs clinical teaching services for both Trauma Surgery and Acute Care General Surgery.
Our group of 5 academic trauma surgeons is offering a limited locum placement effective February 1, 2018 for one year ending January 31, 2019 with the possibility of extension beyond January 2019 for a qualified candidate with fellowship training in trauma seeking to further consolidate career interests in research, education, global health and/or administration related to trauma and/or acute care surgery. We offer 12 clinical weeks (Trauma and ACS) with an expected income of around $200,000. Additional call or service coverage could also supplement this income. Licensure for the independent practice of general surgery in the province of BC is required.
The ideal candidate would pursue an established research interest over the course of a one-year period for which he/she would apply for independent funding and have access to the current Trauma Services research infrastructure. The locum would also participate in all activities of the Section of Trauma Surgery including teaching at the medical student, resident and fellow level, quality assurance, and clinical care improvement activities such as practice guideline development. This is a unique opportunity for a recently qualified general surgeon with trauma sub-specialization to build academic professional experience through collaboration with an accomplished group of trauma surgeons in a major Canadian trauma centre.
Interested candidates are asked to forward a letter of interest and curriculum vitae to:
