Applications will be reviewed and processed within five business days.  Once approved, you will receive a Welcome email with login instructions for our members’ only portal.

*Note on internet browsers: Issues completing our application forms have occurred for users of older versions of Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.  If you are using Internet Explorer, it is no longer supported by Microsoft and we recommend installing another browser.  If you are using Microsoft Edge, we recommend that you ensure the program updates are current.  (These updates will help for a variety of websites – not just our own)

Practicing Member

A medical practitioner in Canada or the United States who holds a valid certificate in general surgery which is in good standing from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Le Collège des Médecins du Québec or The American Board of Surgery or equivalent training.  (Equivalent training that must include significant training in general surgery and eligibility for, or possession of, a surgical diploma from some other jurisdiction.)  

Holds a valid license in good standing to practice medicine in Canada or the United States.

Dues: $495/year
Renewed annually on January 1

Applications received on/after October 1 will have the dues payment applied to the upcoming year.

In Fellowship Training

Any post-graduate trainee who has recently completed a general surgery program, and who is undertaking additional postgraduate training.

Dues: $110/year
Renewed annually on January 1

International Member

General surgeons and surgical trainees residing abroad (outside of Canada or the United States).

*Two (2) letters of recommendation from active CAGS members must be submitted with the application

Dues: $77/year CDN
Renewed annually on January 1

Resident Member

A post-graduate trainee currently enrolled in a Canadian general surgery program.

*Resident memberships are managed in coordination with each residency program and cannot be applied for online.  New residents will receive their CAGS Welcome Package in mid-July.

Medical Students

Anyone currently enrolled in a Canadian or U.S. Medical School that is accredited by Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Association of American Colleges (AAMC).

*Submitted with application: a letter or copy of an email from the Department Chair or General Surgery Program Director verifying that you are a student in good standing in the medical school.

Dues: $55/year

Affiliate Member

Any person belonging to one of the following classifications: Medical doctors (ex: Anesthesiologists, Critical care), Non-Medical Doctors (ex: Masters degree Scientists, PhDs. Scientists), Office/Business Managers, Allied Health Professionals (ex: Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurse First Assistants, Registered Nurses), Technicians (ex: Certified Surgical Technologists)

Dues: $44/year
Renewed annually on January 1

By completing purchases with CAGS you agree to have your Credit card and personal information securely stored as part of a payment profile within a 3rd party payment gateway. This securely stored payment profile will be used, when authorized, for automated recurring payments and will allow for easier and faster checkouts. No credit card information is stored within Member365 and all payment data is accessed by way of a secure API. Under no circumstances will CAGS share credit card or personal details.

CAGS Members can enroll in Automated Recurring Billing (ARB) to facilitate the payment of their annual membership dues.  

You can choose to opt out of ARB at any point in the year by using one of three ways:

  • Through the Membership option under the ‘My Account’ tab on the member portal
  • Click on either of the two reminder emails sent in December of each year
  • By emailing us at cags@cags-accg.ca.
