The purpose of the Research Committee is to promote research activities within the Canadian General Surgical Community and within CAGS. This includes supporting research training for medical students, residents and attending surgeons, providing research opportunities, through the CGSF Operating Grant Competition, highlighting research excellence within CSF and in the larger Canadian General Surgery community, and creating and fostering research collaborations for general surgeons across Canada.
Annual Resident Retreat
Each year, the Research Committee hosts a Research Retreat in conjunction with the Canadian Surgery Forum. This retreat hosts top Residents who are keenly interested in research and chosen by their Program Directors. Invitation Only.
Canadian General Surgery Foundation
The Canadian General Surgery Foundation (CGSF) was founded in the early 1980’s to promote research performed by General Surgeons and General Surgery Residents in both clinical and basic science. The CGSF currently funds 1-2 research projects per year as well as the sponsorship of a Research Retreat for Residents in General Surgery. These grants are adjudicated by the CAGS Research Committee each year and presented to the winners at the Canadian Surgery Forum.
The committee meets on a quarterly basis.
