CAGS is working to empower General Surgeons to improve patients’ lives through advocacy, education and research and is committed to establishing informed Indigenous partnerships.
Our 2022 webinar series includes an interactive session entitled The Unforgotten: Addressing impacts of colonialism and systemic racism in Canadian health care based on the recently released film The Unforgotten, created with support from the CMA, in collaboration with Indigenous people and communities, to explore experiences of Inuit, Metis and First Nations patients with healthcare in Canada and how General Surgeons may engage in creating positive change.
Acknowledging our responsibility to engage in truth and reconciliation with our Indigenous colleagues, patients and communities, we invite members who identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Metis to engage with us in this work by participating in the development and delivery of educational sessions as advisors, small group leaders or discussion panelists. We also welcome your insights and recommendations for this and future CAGS programs and initiatives around this critically important topic.
